This is a question that I’ve often wondered about, with a genetic desire to doing things in order. With Mark Pryor’s The Button Man, I think I should have read the first in the Hugo Marston series, The Bookseller, first, as well as the others. Yes, The Button Man was exciting and had some snappy scenes and twists; but, I felt like I never really came to know the characters.
Sequentially, a prequel follows the first, but serves to fill in the back story and details about how things got to be the way they are. The piece I’m lacking is how things are. I bet the Hugo Marston series is a good one and I’m going to give it a try, but I find the prequel concept a bit disorienting.
